Student Engagement

In case you haven't been told lately, we thank you for your time and investment in your student's future.  You have been instrumental in the development of his or her tastes, expectations, and opinions thus far and will continue to have a major impact on their future development.  Because of that, we know you are a partner with us in this journey.

We share a goal... to see your student become career ready.  This will take effort and preparation on the part of the student.  Ideally, students visit the Career Center to utilize the resources and services that are provided, and realize the value of what is offered.  Realistically, that may or may not happen.  While we believe that students need to begin building skills their first year, most students don't think they need career assistance... at least not until close to graduation.  This is where you can be helpful in the process.  Students needs to be reminded of the importance of career preparation in addition to their academic endeavors.

Please review the website to learn more about the resources and opportunities available to your student.  Additionally, we hope you will utilize this section to learn more about what our office provides, how you can support your student's career development and what to expect of your student.

Career Center Mission and Goals

In supporting the mission of Gardner-Webb University and that of the Division of Student Development, the Office of Career Development endeavors to:

  • Advocate the individual development of each student within a Christian environment;
  • Cultivate relationships, in and around the university, that promote experiential and career-related opportunities for students, and;
  • Prepare students for life and work beyond college.

What Our Department Stands Behind

The Center for Career Development endeavors to resource and partner with students in the process of developing skills and gaining experiences in and out of the classroom. Our goal is for students to be ready to take their first steps into life beyond college and the world of work. The staff works with students to harness talents and experiences, vocalize abilities, and build confidence in an effort to generate all the tools needed to begin a career journey. Our staff will provide a map and walk alongside each student in a supportive and encouraging environment as they gain skills, acquire tools, and practice techniques to make the career journey a successful one.

First Destination Information

As is the case for college students and other adults nationally, the majority of Gardner-Webb students find jobs by making personal contacts with professionals and employers in their career field or interest.  These contacts are supported by the Career Centers job listings, on-campus recruiting visits by employers, career events such as our annual career fairs, student's participation in internships and other experiences, and employer databases such as Gardner-Webb's WebbWorks. Professional career counselors are available throughout the year to help students with their job search strategies.
